    Montclair State University Admissions

For undergraduate admissions, Montclair State requires applicants to have completed at least 16 college prep subjects, a “solid” B average GPA, and an approximate score of 1100 on the SAT or 25 on the ACT. The Admissions department believes that a strong high school GPA and transcript is more valid than a strong score on any standardized test.

On the university website, Montclair State provides the Red Hawk online admissions advisor, which accepts questions and phrases regarding application information. Applicants are also directed to the particular college where their major course of study will be located. Students applying for any program in the School of Arts (including Dance, Music, Fine Arts, or Theatre) must complete an interview, audition, or portfolio review to be accepted into that program. The University does not guarantee acceptance into the applicant’s chosen college.

Undergraduate admissions requirements include high school graduation and college preparatory courses, including four units of English, two of the same foreign language, two of American history, three of mathematics, two of laboratory science, and three electives. Students must provide high school transcripts and test scores. There is no minimum test score or GPA, but most admitted students have a B average and an SAT score of around 1100. Applications must be submitted for the fall term no later than March 1, and decisions are made on a rolling basis beginning in October of the academic year prior. Admission to some programs will require auditions or interviews. The application fee is $55.

Graduate programs require a university application. There is a special application for admission to doctoral programs. Other program requirements vary with the program, and applicants should obtain information on each program individually. Graduate application fees are $60. The application fee for doctoral study is $50.
